ABOUT ME - HISTORY- NOW - FUTURE

Hello I'm Jonathon Lanham. I've created this site to give you a quick run down of how the creative part of my life got started, and to share a few of the personal projects I've worked on throughout the years.

I grew up in the country in Wisconsin and spent a lot of time outside exploring as a child, this helped me appreciate nature and get a connection with my surroundings. My father had a work shop where I spent a lot of my time, this helped me acquire my hands on, building and of course breaking things skills. My mother always encouraged me to be creative and artistic, I was coined "the project man" in my early years.

Throughout high school I was interested in becoming a tool and die maker or designer.  I got a job working for a local die shop which made injection molding dies. I asked many questions and saw many processes which helped familiarize me with the machining and mold making process. Following that I took an introduction to tool and die and manufacturing summer course which started preparing me to become a journeyman in tool and die. After a few years in the trade, although I enjoyed it, I decided it wasn’t for me long term. I changed my focus from tool and die design to the products which the dies are designed around and their packages.

I later attended a design school and majored in graphic arts and photography. This prepared me for the packaging and photography aspect of product design. With my art, design, manufacturing and build experience, I transitioned into the product development field. I've been working in consumer product development for the past 10 years and it's been awesome to say the least.

It has long been a goal of mine to work in the field of industrial design, product development and manufacturing. Throughout the years I have been involved in art, design and engineering more than have ever dreamed.

I feel the hands on experience I have gained in the field is one of a designers strongest assets. Not only in what to do, but also what not to do. I observe and analyze the product development process and work to create, effective, efficient and easily manufactured products.

When I look at a product I never see only the item for sale, I look through it with an inquisitive eye. I look at its package, what it’s made of, its colors, its target customer, it's price among others. I like to find why it exists and how. I do this with everything from a new package of gum to an elaborate vacuum cleaner. It is this constant analyzing that continually helps me to understand the overall scope and challenge of a product or project. I'm honored to be able to use these acquired skills everyday to live a happy creative and successful life.
